GOVERNOR PHILLIP GETS SPEARED AFTER KIDNAPPING BENNELONG 2

2,000.00

This painting depicts the moment a bewildered Governor Arthur Phillip is speared in a pay back ritual for kidnapping Bennelong whilst trying to detain him for a second time after learning of his whereabouts. It has been documented that whilst Phillip and the other members of his party knew little about the cultural system behind the attack, the Governor did not order his soldiers to retaliate but rather excepted the gesture for his crime and retreated.
